Study specifications, engineering blueprints, tool orders, and shop data and confer with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, manufacturing procedures and cost; Design new molds and their components; Apply algebraic and geometric formulas and standard tool engineering data to develop tool configuration, Conduct core and cavity models for CNC machining Testing of prototype tools; Scaling of prototype molds into full production designs and processing of new molds, Interact with research and development personnel, as well as the manufacturing departments to design; Build and trouble shoot molds and tools, Assist in developing solutions to complex molding and mold problems pertaining to manufacturing; Co-ordinate implementation of solutions and develop new and better methods of part inspection; Select cost effective methods for the products.
Requires at least a high school or equivalent and at least 10 years’ experience as a tool designer, mold maker or related.
